Our Story. OnePower Founder and CEO Matt Orosz proudly served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho from 2000-2002. Living in the village Phamong without electricity for two years served as the motivation for his passion for designing energy infrastructure solutions, and his career in global energy access is built on a foundation made in Lesotho.

The pilot mini-grid and those of the planned larger portfolio are solar PV hybrids with battery storage and limited LPG backup generation. The hybrid nature of the design is to ensure 24-hour, year-round electricity supply, including Lesotho’s harsh winters.
Why did Orosz go to Lesotho?
Orosz was also awarded a Fulbright scholarship while at MIT, and was selected for grants from the World Bank and the Environmental Protection Agency. Orosz also aligned himself closely with MIT D-Lab. During his second master’s, he led trips to Lesotho with other D-Lab students.
