Replicating successes from our hybrid solar and battery storage projects at Kenhardt, we will proceed to construct one of Africa’s first and largest standalone dispatchable BESS systems. The project is located near Kathu, Northern Cape, close to high power demand centres.
Located near Kathu in the Northern Cape province, the 103-MW/412-MWh Mogobe BESS will be majority owned by Scatec with a 51% shareholding, while its partners -- Perpetua Mogobe (RF) (Pty) Ltd and the holding company of the Mogobe Local Community Trust, will have 46.5% and 2.5%, respectively.
The BESS will be financed by ZAR 2.7 billion of non-recourse project debt, with the Standard Bank of South Africa tapped as lead arranger, while the remainder will be covered by equity from the owners.
